VIDEO: The Wrong Trousers "Video Killed The Radio Star (cover)"

This is more awesome than the kids from Atlanta who covered Grizzly Bear. High-school students Mack Leighton, Kelsea Little, and Joseph Lorge absolutely KILL with this Buggles cover (in a good way) with some fantastic mandolin playing and a pretty sweet harp solo. Great job guys.

NEW Iron & Wine song - "Boy With a Coin" STREAM

Sorry about the loss of the MP3 of this song, but if Sub Pop says take it down then it gets taken down. Anyway, here's a stream of it. If the album is anywhere near as good as this song would indicate, then we're in for doozy.

They'll be playing Atlanta on July 24, which is also the same day that Bishop Allen's new album "The Broken String" comes out. I love buying albums at shows, because that money actually sees the inside of the bands' wallets. Ah crap, I just realized that they'll play new stuff I won't have heard yet. Arghhh. (I might have to listen to this one "earlier" ;-))

NEW Iron & Wine song - "Boy With a Coin"

I was perusing my favorite blogs today and came across a spectacular find over at MOKB. A new Iron & Wine tune!! Except this didn't sound at all like the Iron & Wine I was used to hearing. This was richer, no more stripped-down roots acoustic-ness. This is an all-new Iron & Wine!! More instruments & a completely different sound...and it's AWESOME. I'm going to say that again for emphasis. It's AWESOME. I can't stop listening to it. It's what we want from every good musician/band: a truly progressive sound. And it's AWESOME. Thank you, Sam Beam. Thank you. The new album "The Shepherd's Dog" is out Sept. 25 on Sub Pop. "Boy With a Coin" will come out as a single on July 10, along with two non-album b-sides "Carried Home" and "Kingdom of the Animals". Man, September can't come fast enough.

FREE SHOW THIS SATURDAY @ PARK TAVERN!!

Dr. Dog will playing a free show at Park Tavern (in Piedmont Park, corner of Monroe & 10th St.) along with Warm in the Wake (a great local band), this Sunday, June 17th as part of the "Unplugged in the Park" series. Dr. Dog put on a great show when I saw them open for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah awhile back, so this should definitely be on your calendar for the weekend. Plus free shows are always good things.

TOO MANY GOOD SHOWS THIS FRIDAY!!!

So although I've made my decision to see Feist and Grizzly Bear this Friday (6/15 @ The Variety Playhouse), it was a very difficult choice. I mean there's Battles @ The Drunken Unicorn, Maserati @ The 40 Watt, The Stills @ Lenny's Bar & Piebald @ The Masquerade. Holy shit! Choices! If anyone sees any of these other shows, drop me a line and lemme know how they were.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: The National @ The EARL this Wed.

The National plays The EARL tomorrow along with Shapes and Sizes. It should be a great show, unfortunately I won't be able to go. Arghhh. To those who will be attending, enjoy.

GREAT NEW LOCAL MUSIC: The Brock Scott Quartet

A friend of mine, Jer, turned me on to this amazing local band a few weeks ago. So it's high time they get a post!! Their music is in the same acoustic/folk/jazz/rock vein as the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Sam Prekop, Calexico & The Clientele. The delicateness of the vocals, to the soaring & intricate musicianship makes a long drive easier, your hand start air drumming, and cures depression. Alright, I'm not sure about the "curing depression" part, but maybe they should try it...you never know. They're currently not signed to any label, and judging by this album that won't last long. I see great things on the horizon for Brock Scott and his quartet.

You can purchase the album for download here.

Otherwise, if you want a hard copy of the CD you can get one of those bad boys by sending 10 bucks (preferably a check) plus shipping to:

Sick, Sick, Sick No More!!!

Man, stomach issues suck. I was actually only sick until Saturday, but getting a tattoo for seven hours on Sunday kinda took it's toll. Monday was for a much needed relaxing recovery. So anyway, I'm back with a vengeance. No, not the Bruce Willis kind. Maybe I'll post a pic or two of my new ink, it turned out sick (the good kind)!!
